Yearly Whiteout Press update and Birthday appeal

By Mark Wachtler

April 19, 2014. Chicago. (ONN) It’s that time of year again, that time where we remind readers and subscribers that Whiteout Press is an independent, grassroots news outlet operated by a lone financially challenged single parent. We’re not funded by anyone but our readers and subscribers. And without your occasional support, we couldn’t continue to publish the news that’s blacked-out, covered-up or censored.

Support indy media – support Whiteout Press!

First, if you haven’t heard from us in a while, there is no need to unsubscribe from this mailing list. There is no list. It’s simply a one-time email to everyone who’s ever subscribed or contributed to us here at Whiteout Press. You most likely won’t be receiving another email unless you’re an existing subscriber. We just wanted to say hi remind you that we’re still here, still trying to defend the defenseless and give a voice to the voiceless.

Privacy Policy & Release Rights

Don’t forget, here at Whiteout Press, we will never sell, rent, trade or share your personal information with anyone for any reason. As our privacy policy states, ‘they can have your personal information when they pry it from our cold, dead hands.’ We mean that figuratively of course. Don’t want to alarm any censors. Also, while almost every website on the internet is ‘All Rights Reserved’, all Whiteout Press content is ‘All Rights Released’. Anything found on Whiteout Press is free to be republished, in part or in whole, so long as credit is given to the original author, and if possible, a return link.

Annoying pop-ups and videos

You may have noticed that you never see a single pop-up ad, self-playing video, ‘sponsored emails’ that are just ads, paid articles, or any of the other annoying add-ons and money-making gimmicks at Whiteout Press. The reason most sites have them is because they bring in money and pay for the website. We refuse to fund Whiteout Press that way, and we know you appreciate it. That’s why our yearly fundraiser today is so important.

Year in review

It’s been an exciting 12 months here at Whiteout Press. Last year, we reprinted the dozens of heartfelt emails and letters we received from readers and subscribers showing their affection for what we do here. This year, we were going to print a list of all the people and grassroots organizations that have asked for help and were then greeted by a Whiteout Press article helping to raise awareness of their cause. But surprising even us, the list was turning out to be much too long. We’ve literally come to the aid of hundreds of people and well-meaning organizations, too many to try and list. Realizing that fact has made this an extra special birthday, regardless of how successful our fundraising efforts are this week.

In case readers have forgotten, it was only a few months ago that we launched two new grassroots news outlets. Since most readers had little interest in local news here in Chicago where Whiteout Press is located, we created the Illinois Herald. And since we were attempting to cover as many independent and third party election candidates as we could, we decided to launch a new site dedicated solely to shining a spotlight on all the citizen-candidates out there each year, stuck in a David and Goliath election race. Our answer was Opposition News – voice of America’s political opposition.

“The news shouldn’t be left wing or right wing, conservative or liberal. It should be the news. It should be independent”Mark Wachtler, Whiteout Press founder

Romantic Violence in R World

Have you ever wanted to write and publish your own book? So has your author/owner here at Whiteout Press. But since publishing companies only deal with literary agents, and literary agents only represent published authors, it’s nearly impossible for an average person to become a novelist, until now. After two years of publisher and agent rejections, your author did what your author typically does and founded his own publishing company, where I published my own book under the banner of Whiteout Press.

Ha! I showed them. They won’t cover the real news, so we started our own news outlet. They wouldn’t publish our book, so we started our own publishing company and did it ourselves. The result is the book, ‘Romantic Violence in R World’. Check out the website for excerpts and ordering information. Any book purchase also helps support Whiteout Press. And as soon as we can get things a little more organized here and get a few more resources, we plan on making our free publishing services available to anyone else out there who wants to publish their own book. We’re getting there, one step at a time. And your support is helping us get there. If you think that’s impressive, just wait until we finally get our hands on a decent used video camera and can start producing our own TV show.

On the horizon

In addition to publishing books written by our subscribers and producing our own daily Cable and Online TV news show, we also have a very big, very good idea up our sleeve that we can’t wait to get started on. Unfortunately, it’s such a great idea that I can’t even disclose what it is for fear of someone running with it before we can gather a few resources to put it together and do it right, not for profit or for publicity, but to help out all the independent news outlets out there just like Whiteout Press. Stay tuned.

Another coming announcement we’re working on is our 1,000th article. That’s right, Whiteout Press is only days away from publishing our 1,000th article. Considering we’re just a one-man operation, that’s pretty impressive if we do say so ourselves. And as we’ve noticed, the vast majority of our articles either expose wrong-doing by the powerful, or they answer a call for help and shine a spotlight on a cause that is in need of some news coverage. We’re proud to see that after 3 years, we’ve stuck by our original mission of helping those in need by covering the news that’s blacked-out, covered-up or censored.

Final thoughts

I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank all of our readers and subscribers that email us periodic letters of support and encouragement. It’s those sincere and appreciative emails that provide the fuel that keeps us going in the face of insurmountable opposition with so few resources. Whiteout Press has more than 5,000 dedicated subscribers, 5,300 Facebook friends, 1,300 Twitter followers and we appreciate each and every one of you.

If you appreciate Whiteout Press, we certainly could use a small donation to help us at this time. Unlike so many others that ask for money on a weekly basis, we only ask twice a year. And all donations made online go through Paypal’s secure payment system, we never see any of your information on our end. It’s definitely safe and secure. We also have a physical mailing address for those who would rather send us a letter through the mail. Write to:

ONN/Whiteout Press – PO Box 300942 – Chicago, IL 60630

T-Shirt Offer! – Don’t forget, to celebrate our 3rd Birthday, receive a complimentary/free Whiteout Press tee shirt with any donation of $20 or more during the month of April. Be sure to let us know what size (M, L, XL). Click here for more information.

Until next time, thank you for your support. We can’t tell you how much it helps, it means to us, and how much we truly appreciate it. If you’re not currently a Whiteout Press subscriber, be sure to subscribe below. As always, it’s FREE and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Kindest regards,

Mark Wachtler
