2013 Assault Weapons Ban List and its Sponsors

January 30, 2013. Washington. Less than a week ago, Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) introduced the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013. The Senate Bill has 17 additional co-sponsors and is being endorsed by hundreds of social, religious, municipal, political and community groups. Below, we bring readers the list of over 157 firearms to be banned, the sponsoring Senators and the supporting organizations.

Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) announces the Democrats’ 2013 Assault Weapons Ban.

“The Bill introduced today is the product of more than a year of work, with input from across the country,” Feinstein said while announcing the assault weapons ban, “Getting this Bill signed into law will be an uphill battle, and I recognize that. But it’s a battle worth waging.”

The Assault Weapons Ban

The actual Bill introduced last week by Sen. Diane Feinstein is 122 pages long. Within its pages are detailed descriptions of items to be banned, including both firearms and accessories alike. ‘To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes,’ the first sentence of the Bill reads.

In addition to the 157 “military style assault weapons”, as Sen. Feinstein refers to them, the Bill would also outlaw any clips or magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. According to the statement released by Feinstein, “It also bans an additional group of assault weapons that can accept a detachable ammunition magazine and have one or more military characteristics.”

Not stopping there, the Assault Weapons Ban would require background checks on all future transfers of assault weapons covered by the legislation and require grandfathered assault weapons to be stored safely using a secure gun storage or safety device.
