2012 General Election Presidential Results for all Candidates

0

November 7, 2012. With yesterday’s General Election finally over and more than 95 percent of the vote counted, here is a recap of how the top 29 Presidential candidates finished. All parties’ nominees are included. At first glance, it’s safe to say 2012 was a disappointing year for independent and third party Presidential hopefuls. But on the other hand, dozens of local, state and federal independent and third party candidates did surprisingly well.

The undeniably low vote totals for the below independent and opposition/third party candidates could be attributed to a number of factors. First, roughly 5% of the national popular vote is still outstanding. Second, write-in votes and provisional ballots are often not counted until days after the election, if at all. But most of all, the low vote totals are attributed to a razor-thin race for President between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney.

Obviously, the vast majority of independent voters opted to vote for one of the two establishment candidates. Whether it was a lack of viable, credible alternatives or a fear that the worse of two evils might win, is yet to be analyzed. Compared to local independent, Libertarian, Green and other candidates who received upwards of 20% in some races, those same voters apparently chose to abandon their national Presidential ticket and vote for either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney.

Below, please see the unofficial, final vote totals for the 2012 Presidential General Election. With more than 95% of the vote reported, percentages will most-likely remain the same for the final official count. But the actual vote totals may increase slightly.

*Note from Whiteout Press. We find it highly irregular that so many of the actual vote totals are the exact same. We’ll monitor the Google Election site, as well as others, and will update the above numbers accordingly. Also, as write-in ballots are eventually counted and added in, the above totals will rise slightly.
