December 26, 2011. Sunny Isles Beach, FL. The Boston Tea Party, an independent third party born out of the national Tea Party movement, announced the results of its party primary this weekend. Up for grabs were the party’s nominations for President and Vice President. And in what some may consider a surprise, the ticket is comprised of two females, Tiffany Briscoe and Kimberly Johnson. Here’s a quick look at the Boston Tea Party, as well as their General Election candidate for President.
The Boston Tea Party, an independent political party
As reported by Examiner.com today, the Boston Tea Party was founded in 2006 with a one sentence platform, “The Boston Tea Party supports reducing the size, scope and power of government at all levels and on all issues, and opposes increasing the size, scope and power of government at any level, for any purpose.” In 2008, the party’s National Convention adopted the four-point program of the Campaign for Liberty. Their program calls for:
- an end to overseas occupation
- a restoration of privacy and other liberties
- no increase in the national debt
- a thorough review of the Federal Reserve
During the 2010 convention, the Party adopted five additional programs:
- end the wars of aggression
- end the Fed
- end the war on drugs
- end the abuses of liberty
- end the immigration fiasco
The Boston Tea Party’s national chairman, Darryl W. Perry, says he expects to have the party’s Presidential ticket on the ballot in as many as 15 states in November. In announcing the results of the party’s primary election, Perry said, “I would like to thank those of you who voted in the Presidential Nominating Convention. I would like to congratulate Tiffany Briscoe winning the BTP Presidential and Kimberly Johnson on winning the Vice Presidential nomination. You two ladies will represent the party well in the 2012 election.”

BTP Presidential nominee Tiffany Briscoe’s campaign website describes her as being active in local level politics since the young age of 19. Now at 35, the small business owner and advocate for smaller government is looking forward to hitting the campaign trail. In accepting the Boston Tea Party’s nomination this weekend, Briscoe said, “Today, I was officially nominated as the candidate that will represent the Boston Tea Party in the 2012 presidential election. I am more than honored for such a nomination. We came from nothing, and are now bound to win the presidency for the fastest-growing political party in the United States. But our fight has not ended. We are just beginning.”
Tiffany Briscoe went on to say, “I am now beginning to hit the campaign trail. Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire are all states that we have good chances to win because of their freedom-loving population. But even more importantly, we will have to campaign heavily through the Internet, as this election cycle might be heavily influenced by the online community.”
When asked why she is running for President, Briscoe says, “This is why I am running for President. Not only do I think our current leadership is worsening the situation the former administration had put us in, but also I believe that a wise and a good governance is what the American people deserve. Limited government is good, but it is not enough. Free markets are good, but they are never enough. Social freedom is noble, but it is not enough.”
Briscoe is a libertarian with a strong insistence on repealing the Patriot Act. In fact, as a quick summary to her feelings on the most pressing issues of the day, her website begins each section with a brief, historical quote.

In closing her acceptance speech, BTP Presidential nominee Tiffany Briscoe said, “Based on the principles of free trade, free markets, and free minds, I am running as the nominee of the Boston Tea Party for the Presidency of the United States, with the respectable Kimberly Johnson. If we stand together, we can bring a New Vision for America, one of Prosperity and Freedom.”
